Desiree was diagnosed with Lupus Nephritis when she was 16 years old. Over the course of many years she was treated with various forms of medications, including but not limited to steroids, opioid prescriptions, and anti-inflammatory drugs. By the time she was 24 years old her Lupus had developed to stage 3 and her battle with fatigue and pain had become an everyday obstacle. Then she was introduced to cannabis as an alternative pain relief medication and was able to drastically reduce her reliance on mainstream prescription drugs. Surprised and thankful for the relief this alternative provided, she eagerly sought out books, information, and educators who could explain the experience she was having. She found very few books, a couple of documentaries, and only one doctor who spoke briefly on alternative care at a networking event. Desiree decided that was not enough.
She determined a safe space needed to be created where people could educate themselves in all areas of alternative care and the vast healing uses for these therapies. Minority communities are overcome with various illnesses and addictions that can be treated with natural remedies. There is a growing need for understanding of alternatives used for medicinal purposes and the effects it has on society.
